Officials and a state contractor are outlining the final plans for a section of the Southern Beltway several miles long in Robinson Township.

The 2.75-mile section of the toll road will be built by Trumbull Corp., which was awarded a $116.2 million contract by the Turnpike Commission earlier this month. The contract gives the project an end date of June 2021.

Turnpike spokeswoman Renee Colborn said those involved with the project are in ongoing talks about the project over the next two weeks.

“They are hammering out plans as we speak,” Colborn said in an email. “No construction has begun because Trumbull only received the notice to proceed at the last commission meeting.”

A community meeting for the public to learn more details of the project is set for Dec. 12. It will be held at the Fort Cherry Golf Club from 6 to 8 p.m.

The section is just part of the 13-mile, $800 million stretch of tolled road that eventually will link Route 22 and Interstate 79.

The section Trumbull will build is to include an interchange with a road connecting it to nearby Route 980.

The interchange will be built on land formerly owned by the McDonald Sportsmen’s Association, which is located on Cooks Road. The commission acquired the property in February as part of a $5 million settlement for the partial taking of the high-end gun club’s land.
