Washington police obtain two warrants in assault, robbery of pizza delivery driver
Washington police have obtained arrest warrants for a Roscoe woman and a man identified only as John Doe in last month’s assault and robbery of a pizza delivery driver.
Kanesha Barfield, 19, of 502 Arthur St., Roscoe, and a John Doe who also is known as “Silk,” “Silky” and “Silky Man” were charged last week by Detective Daniel Rush with robbery and conspiracy in connection with the Sept. 16 robbery outside a home in the 100 block of Jollick Manor.
Police were called to the area about 11:40 p.m. for a report of an assault of a pizza delivery driver.
Shaiona Qushar Gilbert, 19, of 54 McCarrell Ave., Washington, was taken into custody that night when she was tracked down near Crumrine Towers by Officer Matthew Karlosky and his K-9 partner, Tony, after Karlosky saw two people run from the area. The two went in different directions. Karlosky caught up with Gilbert, who was dressed in men’s clothing, and tackled her. The dog bit her in the back.
While at the hospital for treatment of abrasions and the bite, Gilbert reportedly told police that five or six people were present during the assault and robbery. She told police they planned to rob the driver. Her cellphone number was on the receipt for the pizza, police said.
Two days after the robbery, Rush obtained surveillance video from Jollick Manor and Crumrine Towers. The video shows a man with a woman, later identified by police as Barfield, having contact with the delivery driver as he attempted to deliver the pizza. Barfield allegedly tried to take the pizza from the driver without paying for it. The driver dropped the pizza in an attempt to get away from his attackers. He then gave up $20.
Police said Gilbert is seen leaving a residence and approaching the driver, who is being restrained by Barfield and the man. Police said the three tried to hit the driver until he broke free and ran to his parked vehicle. The driver either fell or was knocked to the ground and was again assaulted by the trio, police said. He broke free, got to his vehicle and drove himself to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Police said they also learned that Gilbert’s cellphone was used to order a pizza for delivery to another residence in Jollick Manor from a different pizza shop.
Gilbert is awaiting trial on charges of robbery, resisting arrest and theft after waiving her case to court last week during a preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger. She remains in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond.
Anyone with information on Barfield’s whereabouts or who can identify John Doe is asked to call city police at 724-223-4226 or 911.
