A slide in the land near Oakwood Lane in North Strabane Township’s Majestic Hills housing plan caused township officials to close one lane of the road indefinitely Thursday night.

The township has been dealing with the landslide since June, when the land behind four homes slid following heavy rains.

Township engineer Joe Sites, along with other officials, were evaluating the site late Thursday to determine a course of action.

One lane of the road will remain open for school buses and garbage trucks today, and police will direct traffic, said township manager Andrew Walz.

One lane of Forest Lane, which was closed by the landslide in June, will be reopened Friday for emergency entrance and exit.

However, because officials believe opening the road could destabilize the hillside, two of the three homes that were condemned after they were damaged by the landslide will be demolished today.
