Monessen School Board looking for a new member
MONESSEN – Director Frank Rapsky announced his resignation from the Monessen School Board at its monthly meeting Tuesday.
Rapsky, who was elected to a four-year term last November, said he is resigning because he is starting a new position with Westmoreland County Adult Probation and Parole.
“Serving on the board was a great learning experience,” said Rapsky. “I enjoyed working with the other board members to help the district achieve its goals.”
Board Vice President Roberta Bergstedt said the school board is accepting letters of interest for the open position. The board hopes to vote on a replacement for Rapsky at its next meeting in November.
Also, during the meeting, business manager Jeff Festor said the district is accepting bids for a new auditing firm. in August, state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale released a performance audit, stating that the district put its financing and credit ratings at risk because of late financial statements and reports.
The board ended its contract with Zelenkofske Axelrod, LLC after voting to approve the audit report for the year ending June 30, 2016.
In other business, the board:
- Approved a settlement of the real estate tax assessment appeal for the Monessen Fire Department No. 1 Social Hall, on Donner Avenue.
- Hired Katrina Barger as a speech language pathologist, Jennifer Costanza as the elementary school guidance counselor, Katelyn Bailey as an elementary special education teacher, Curtis Mays as a full-time custodian and Dimitri Lazzari as a part-time aide.
