County Democrats to meet
The Washington County Democratic Committee will hold its quarterly meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 175, 168 Park Ave., Washington. Greene County, PT receive state grants
The state Department of Environmental Protection announced that is was giving $37 million in grants to help nearly 200 county and municipal government with recycling and leaf collection programs.
Through the Recycling Development and Implementation grant program, municipalities and counties in Pennsylvania are eligible for up to 90 percent funding of approved recycling program costs.
Greene County received $145,000 for the program. Peters Township, which was the only municipality in Washington County to receive a grant, is getting $122,400.
Second preschool worker charged
SOMERSET (AP) – Police have charged another Pennsylvania preschool worker after the school’s owner was accused of putting the sleep aid melatonin in children’s lunches.
WJAC-TV reported Janie Hersh was charged Wednesday for failing to act as a mandated reporter and disorderly conduct.
A criminal complaint states Hersh knew Teryll Gribble, owner of Learning Links Preschool in Somerset Township, was putting melatonin in certain students’ lunches so they would nap.
Gribble was charged with endangering the welfare of children in July.
