Lane McFarland and his mother, Lisa, provide more than meals at Beechie’s Place. The co-owners of the Chartiers Township restaurant provide community service.

“We never say no,” Lane said. “If we cannot commit to a financial donation, to a charity, we give a ticket for dinner for two. We donate a lot.”

The McFarlands, and Beechie’s, will be honored for their outreach in Philadelphia on Monday night. The Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association will present them with the 2018 Wilmer S. Lapp Community Service Award for a number of initiatives that support the Meadow Lands community, including Music & Meatballs for the Chartiers-Houston High School music program. The McFarlands are part of a three-generation Chartiers-Houston family.

The Lapp honor is among the 2018 Spirit of Hospitality Awards the association hands out annually.

This is a big honors weekend for Beechie’s, which will celebrate eight years in business on Nov. 5. For the sixth year in a row, the restaurant will receive an Excellence in Food Safety, Health and Education award. Lane McFarland said Beechie’s has won a couple of other state awards, but lost out on a national award for which it was nominated.

The restaurant has a wide-ranging menu that falls in the New American category.

LongHorn honor

Heather Graytok, managing partner of LongHorn Steakhouse in South Strabane Township, has achieved Diamond Club status, a top honor with parent company Darden Restaurants.

This is the third time she has received the Diamond Club designation. According to a news release, Graytok was honored for her commitment to “delivering guest experiences at the highest level, while making a difference in the lives of guests and team members, as well as in her community.”

She is part of a group of 24 managing partners selected from more than 500 LongHorn locations across the country.

Promotion announced

Hana Rydl of Canonsburg has been promoted to environmental inspector supervisor for TruHorizon Environmental Solutions, based in Claysville.

Rydl received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Point Park University. She said her department added 14 inspectors. “We now inspect in multiple counties in Pennsylvania and West Virginia and one county in Ohio.”
