Washington police arrested a city man at his home Friday night after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and tried to strike several officers as they attempted to take him into custody.

Laron Jackson, 42, of 174 Jollick Manor, was arrested after police were called to his home about 8 p.m. for a report of a man armed with a knife, cutting himself.

When police arrived, they could hear a man, later identified as Jackson, yelling “Why did you cut me?” Police entered the home and said they found Jackson on the floor with knife wounds to the left arm and right thigh. They said he was highly intoxicated.

Jackson got off the floor and started to leave the house. When one officer tried to calm Jackson, he allegedly tried to throw an elbow at him. More officers arrived and tried to calm Jackson. He then allegedly tried to punch the officers as they attempted to arrest him. One of the officers used pepper spray on Jackson, and they were able to place handcuffs on him.

Jackson was taken to Washington Hospital, where he claimed his 39-year-old girlfriend had stabbed him. She reportedly told police he stabbed himself after drinking an entire bottle of liquor. She also told police he assaulted her.

Jackson was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on four counts of aggravated assault and one count each of simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public drunkenness. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Jackson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
