A fugitive wanted for escape in Iowa was arrested by state police Monday during a traffic stop in Washington.

District Judge Larry Hopkins sent the suspect, Kenneth Andrew Bowman, to Washington County jail without bond pending his extradition to Iowa, court records show.

Bowman, 30, whose address was unknown, was a passenger in a vehicle state police pulled over about 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Hall Avenue.

Police said he identified himself as James Dorsey before attempting to run from the traffic stop. Police deployed a Taser to apprehend him.

A bag of marijuana was found in his underwear, court records allege.

Police searched online records for Dorsey and determined a photograph of him did not match Bowman’s appearance.

Bowman later was identified using fingerprints.

State police charged him with escape, possession of a small amount of marijuana, resisting arrest, giving police a false identification, flight to avoid apprehension, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
