South Strabane police arrest Tennessee man
A Tennessee man was arrested early Tuesday by South Strabane Township police on drunken driving and weapons charges after he reportedly crashed into three vehicles parked in a Trinity Point hotel lot.
James Robert Lavery, 24, of Robbins, Tenn., is charged with carrying firearms without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and three counts of accidents causing damage to unattended vehicle.
Police were called about 2:40 a.m. to Springhill Suites for a report of a vehicle that struck multiple vehicles in the lot. When police arrived, the driver, later identified as Lavery, was walking away from his vehicle to the lobby.
When police asked him if he had been drinking, he told the officer he drank “a lot.” His blood alcohol level was later determined to be almost 21/2 times the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication.
Police said they checked his pickup truck and spotted a loaded .45-caliber handgun on the passenger side floor. Police said Lavery does not have a permit to carry a gun in Pennsylvania.
Lavery was arraigned before District Larry Hopkins and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Nov. 6 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller.
