CHARLEROI – Charleroi Area School District got a clean bill of financial health following its annual fiscal audit.

Cypher and Cypher, a Canonsburg-based accounting firm, completed an audit for the year ending June 30 and found the district to be in good financial standing.

According to Crystal Zahand, business manager for the district, revenues and expenditures did not waver far from initial projections.

“For revenues, we collected 5.7 percent more than we budgeted and on the expenditure side, we spent only .04 percent more that was originally planned,” said Zahand, at the board of education’s monthly business meeting Tuesday. “It was a very tight budget, but everyone was pleased with the outcome.”

Charleroi is operating with a $24,123,000 budget for the current school year.

Zahand added the district will continue to look for ways to maximize revenues and streamline expenses.

“Cypher and Cypher recommended that we continue to make the tough decisions that we have been making as a board and creative team,” she said. “We are always looking outside the box to find workable solutions. For instance, we have shared some services with other school districts to save money.”

In other business, the board voted to accept a school resource officer grant in the amount of $66,000.

Representatives from the Charleroi Sabres semiprofessional football team attended the meeting to answer questions from the board. The Sabres, part of the Premier Amateur Football League, have requested permission to play their home football games at Myron Pottios Stadium in Charleroi. The board plans to make a decision at its next meeting in November.
