Teen charged in assault of deputy, attorney at Washington County hearing
A 15-year-old Washington County boy is in an Ohio juvenile detention center after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his attorney and a Washington County sheriff’s deputy while he was at Washington County Family Court Center for a proceeding Wednesday morning.
He was charged by a deputy in a juvenile allegation with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment and one count of disorderly conduct.
The boy was in a courtroom for a proceeding that reportedly involved Washington County Children and Youth Services when the call came for a report of a dispute.
A deputy said the boy tried to leave the courtroom in the middle of the proceeding. His attorney advised the boy to remain and tried to stop him from leaving the courtroom. When she tried to stop him, he allegedly used a body check to get her away from the door.
The boy then went up the steps to the main floor, where he encountered Deputy Elizabeth Davidson in the waiting room. She tried to stop him, and he allegedly elbowed her in the face.
Sheriff Sam Romano was at the security vestibule off West Cherry Avenue when he heard the commotion.
“I heard her yell ‘stop’ and went to check it out,” Romano said.
The sheriff saw the boy struggling with the deputy and took the 15-year-old into custody. Davidson was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of bruises, Romano said.
The boy was taken to Jefferson County (Ohio) Juvenile Detention Center.
