Drug take-back event today
Police departments in Washington County and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs from 10?a.m. to 2?p.m. today. The service is free and anonymous, and no questions will be asked.
According to a news release from Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone, this is the 12th opportunity in six years residents have been invited to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs in designated take-back locations.
The following police departments will hold take-back day at their departments, unless noted otherwise: South Strabane Township, Cecil Township, Chartiers Township, City of Washington, Peters Township at Giant Eagle and Rite Aid, Mt. Pleasant, McDonald, Carroll Township at the department and Monongahela Valley Hospital, Canonsburg at the department and Shop ‘n Save, Charleroi, and California Borough at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
In addition to the take-back event, Vittone said 22 police departments have drug-collection boxes available within their stations for the disposal of unwanted medications year-round. W&J to host energy lecture series
Washington & Jefferson College will host a lecture on energy infrastructure on its campus Tuesday.
The fall installment of the school’s annual lecture series will be held at 7?p.m. in Yost Auditorium, which is in the Howard J. Burnett Center. The event, held by the college’s Center for Energy Policy and Management, is titled “A Smart & Sustainable Future for Rural American Infrastructure” and will feature associates of the multinational engineering, construction and design firm AECOM.
The speakers – Steven Duong, associate vice president of design, planning, and economics, and Tatum Lau, a senior urban designer – will talk about how small and medium-sized communities can plan, design and fund infrastructure projects that are more environmentally sustainable.
The event is free and open to the public.
Closures on road in Peters expected
There will be short-term lane closures starting Monday on East McMurray Road between Route 19 and the Allegheny County line.
The restrictions will be in place as needed between 9?a.m. and 3?p.m. so final touches can be done on the asphalt curbs, guardrails and other items in the area that was recently repaved.
West Washington church to hold sale
West Washington United Methodist Church will hold a fall sale from 8?a.m. to 3?p.m. today in Fellowship Hall, located behind the church at 625 Fayette St. There will also be a bake sale.
