3-year-old girl nearly drowns at North Strabane motel pool
The North Strabane Township fire chief said a 3-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after she nearly drowned Sunday afternoon in a swimming pool at a Meadowlands Boulevard motel.
Police were called just before 3 p.m. to the Comfort Inn for a report of a drowning and that the girl was unconscious, said fire Chief Mark Grimm.
When police arrived, the girl was conscious and alert after a parent had performed CPR on her. She was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment and is expected to be fine, police said. The girl was reportedly attending a birthday party at the indoor pool.
“There is no doubt in my mind she is alive because of the CPR, because she would have had no pulse,” Grimm said.
A helicopter was placed on standby in the event the girl would have needed to be taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.
It was a busy afternoon for township firefighters. Shortly after, they were dispatched to a wooded area off the 200 block of Christy Road for a report of an 18-year-old man who had been shot in the eye with an air-soft gun.
Grimm said the injured teen was taken by ambulance to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
