A North Strabane Township woman was arrested Friday by township police after she allegedly hit her 7-year-old daughter with a metal spatula that left an impression of the cooking utensil on the girl’s buttocks.

Michelle Landis, 43, of 60 Carl Ave., Eighty Four, was charged with endangering the welfare of children and simple assault. The girl also reportedly was hit in the hand.

The girl told police her mother had hit her and that it “hurt bad.” She was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The girl’s 4-year-old brother also was at home.

Police said Landis told them she sometimes hits the children on the buttocks to get them moving.

Police stayed with the children until a caseworker for Washington County Children and Youth Services arrived to take custody of them.

Landis was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on a $10,000 percentage bond. She is scheduled for a Sept. 25 hearing before District Judge Jay Weller.
