Canton man missing for a week found dead in wreckage of vehicle in Ohio
A Canton Township man last seen when he headed out in the early morning hours of Sept. 4 for a fishing trip at an Ohio lake was found dead in the wreckage of his vehicle over a ravine off Route 22 in Jefferson County, Ohio.
Anthony “Tony” Goudy, of Buena Vista Street, who would have turned 51 Friday, was found Wednesday afternoon. His wife, April Ahrens Goudy, confirmed her husband’s death on her Facebook page late Wednesday afternoon. The crash, which happened off the eastbound lanes about 10 miles from the West Virginia line, is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who said Goudy’s van hit a guardrail and overturned several times.
“Thanks again to everyone for all your continued support through this painful process,” his wife wrote. “We find comfort knowing that Tony knew the Lord and is at peace now.”
“Please continue to keep our family in your prayers and respect our privacy at this difficult time,” she added.
Goudy was last seen at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 4 when he left his home to go fishing at Tappan Lake in Harrison County. He talked to his daughter about 8:50 p.m. that day, telling her he was coming home and would talk to her the following day, his wife said Tuesday night.
“She sent him a text at midnight, and he never responded,” she said. “That is absolutely out of character for him. He doesn’t leave his phone off.”
The area of the search was focused in the Bellaire/Tappan Lake area after reported sighting of Goudy’s work van in the area.
April Goudy said Tuesday the search was overwhelming for her family and they were distraught.
The couple have two children together and have adopted five other children. She said her husband missed a son’s wedding in West Virginia over the weekend.
April Goudy said her husband was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving for four years including during Operation Desert Storm. He owned Goudy Heating and Air of Washington.
