Canonsburg police arrest Georgia man accused of trying to break into business
Canonsburg police arrested a Georgia man who was found bleeding Friday outside a West Pike Street convenience store he allegedly tried to burglarize.
Brad Michael Willis, 29, of Macon, is charged with attempted burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
Police were called to the 7-Eleven at 535 W. Pike for a report of a “glass break” alarm at 1:32 a.m. When Sgt. Donald Cross and Officer Anthony Cancilla arrived a few minutes later, they saw a garbage can where vehicles would normally be parked at the pumps. A large glass window was broken on the side of the business, and glass was scattered across the parking lot. A second garbage can was found near the front door.
The officers searched the parking lot, finding a man later identified as Willis lying on the ground next to a set of gas pumps. He was not responding to commands, and his breathing appeared to be shallow, police said. Willis’ hands were bloody, and there was blood on the ground. Police said an orange cone that was nearby also had blood on it.
Willis then started speaking, reportedly taunting the two officers. He allegedly refused to roll onto his stomach to be handcuffed. Police were eventually able to handcuff him, and he was placed in the back of a police cruiser.
The two officers searched the parking lot, finding a third garbage can. The front door, front window and side of the building were covered in blood. Police said it appeared Willis tried to break a second window that also had blood on it.
Police said there was shattered glass throughout the store. A red bin was found on the floor in the first aisle, and police said it appeared Willis used it to smash out a window.
Willis was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He faces a Sept. 25 preliminary hearing before District Judge David Mark.
