Gasoline prices continue to rise slightly in region
The average price of a gallon of unleaded self-serve gasoline in Western Pennsylvania has gone up for a third consecutive week. But the increase was only 0.9 cents to $3.128. according to a report from AAA East Central.
That figure is 27.3 cents higher than it was a year ago, at $2.855.
Washington’s price inched up 1.3 cents to $3.092, which is 3.6 cents below the regional average. The average price nationally is $2.85, the same last week.
The average price remained the same in Pennsylvania, but Hurricane Florence forced the prices up three cents in North Carolina one cent in Virginia went up. The cost remained stable or decreased a few cents elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. Gasoline inventories for the region are at 66.7 million barrels, the highest level it has been since March 2016, and could be used to assist hurricane-impacted areas.
Washington’s price is the fifth-lowest average among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA. Sharon ($3.036) has the lowest figure for the third week in a row; Uniontown ($3.055) is fourth. Brookville ($3.207) has the highest average.
