Washington County Commissioners

Date: April 4

Action: The board awarded a $289,203 contract to Metzinger Inc. of Pittsburgh to replace the superstructure of the Potter Bridge over Wheeling Creek. Money for the project will be funded from Pennsylvania Act 13 Impact Fee restricted bridge funds.

Commissioners approved an additional amount not to exceed $7,500 to GAI Consultants for additional work required to obtain a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection for the Discovery Cove project at Cross Creek Park. The revised total contract of $247,110 is coming from natural gas leases, as is the purchase of two John Deere tractors costing $26,127 to be used at Cross Creek and Mingo parks.

The board approved $3,000 in matching funds required for $37,000 coming from the Local Share Account of gambling revenue from The Meadows Racetrack and Casino to pave the parking lot at the Cross Creek Senior Center.

The Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool has granted Washington County $20,000 to install security cameras at county buildings in Washington and purchase both a fire extinguisher simulator for training classes conducted by the Public Safety Department and a vehicular heat alert system to protect the sheriff’s department K-9.

Next meeting: 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building.
