Trinity changes employee medical insurance

1 min read

Trinity Area School District is changing the medical insurance it provides to its teachers and other employees.

The school board voted last week to drop out of the Intermediate Unit 1 consortium and join Aetna.

The two-year agreement with Aetna, which affects teachers, secretaries, special service aids, and maintenance and custodial employees, runs from July 1 through June 30, 2021.

About two dozen employees attended the school board meeting, and before the vote was taken, asked directors to table the motion to change insurance.

Trinity Area Education Association president Melissa Emery-Gillo said the union is concerned that self-funding a plan through a provider outside of a healthcare consortium is more costly and risky.

The school district declined to comment on the change of insurance because it is still negotiating health insurance with support staff.
