Police investigate robberies, burglary at three stores in three days
State police are investigating two robberies and a break-in at convenience stores over the last three days in Franklin Township and Carmichaels.
The first robbery happened about 4:40 a.m. Sunday at the Circle K on West George Street in Carmichaels. Police said the suspect entered the store, showed the clerk a screwdriver and demanded money. The clerk gave the man cash from the register, and the man fled on foot.
Police described the man as white, “in his 20’s,” with a light build, light hair and about 6 feet tall. Police said he was wearing a dark green cloth over his face, a black hoodie, gray sweatpants and black shoes.
Early Monday morning, a man matching that description entered the BFS Store in the 1500 block of High Street, Franklin Township, just before 2 a.m. Police said the store was closed with no one inside when the man used a hammer to break a window and enter the store.
Police said the man took a large number of cigarette packs and fled through the same window.
The next morning, a man with the same description and armed with a hammer stole a cash register containing about $150 from the BFS store at 270 E. Roy Furman Highway in Franklin Township.
Police said the man entered the store about 3:40 a.m., grabbed the cash register and ran from the store toward the rear of the building, in the direction of Monro Muffler.
Trooper Lucas Borkowski, who’s investigating the incidents, said the man dropped the hammer in the parking lot. He said the hammer was logged into evidence and they hope to collect DNA from it.
“We can’t confirm, but we believe the incidents are linked,” Borkowski said.
