The Washington-Greene Counties Central Labor Council has added to its hall of fame.

Ed Yankovich, Vicki Wyland and the late Bill Leskosky were inducted Saturday during the council’s biennial breakfast. It took place at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on Racetrack Road, North Strabane Township. The inductions, according to council vice president Barry Andrews, raised hall membership to 100.

Yankovich is retiring as president of United Mineworkers District 2 in Uniontown. He is a longtime union leader.

Wyland, a longtime Washington County resident, was a member of Service Employees International Union Healthcare PA for 35 years until her retirement. Wyland was an aide and secretary at Canonsburg Hospital, where she was a leader in a 1991 strike.

A native of the Waynesburg area, Leskosky worked for the state Department of Transportation for 38 years. He was an officer with two PennDOT locals, and was vice president of Council 13 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees in Harrisburg. He died Jan. 31.

The Washington-Greene unit, according to Andrews, is one of only two labor councils nationally to have a hall of fame. That one started in 1991.

Subaru moves

to Peters

The auto dealership at 3260 Washington Road, Peters Township, has a new occupant. Subaru of South Hills is now operating where Bowser Cadillac had been until recently.

Monday was opening day for the new business, an employee confirmed. But the new business actually is a relocated business, one that, until eight days ago, functioned as Day West Liberty Subaru in the Brookline section of Pittsburgh. The move – 11 miles and one county to the south, along the same roadway – followed.

This move is part of a recent deal consummated by Bowser Automotive Group and Baierl Automotive. In it, Baierl traded the Day Chevrolet dealership it owned in Monroeville for Bowser Cadillac. The east suburban store is now Bowser Chevrolet of Monroeville.

Lithia Motors Inc. of Medford, Ore., bought Baierl in 2017 and Day a year ago.
