DONORA – A Donora man was jailed Wednesday on accusations he terrorized a woman by chasing her outside while wielding a large crescent wrench.

Donora police arrested the suspect, John Edward Gatts, 33, after finding the woman screaming for help about 11 p.m. Tuesday at Second Street and Waddell Avenue, court records show.

Police accused Gatts of pushing Helena Dick to the floor of his residence at 227 Waddell before chasing her with the wrench with it “cocked in the striking position,” the affidavit states.

Police said they found Gatts with his hands covered in blood when they ordered him to the ground at Taser point, the charging documents indicate.

Dick told officers that Gatts had smashed a $300 television and the windows in both of their cars.

He was charged with making terroristic threats that cause an evacuation, terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct.

District Judge Larry Hopkins sent Gatts to Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
