A Centerville man is accused of stabbing his friend during an argument over the way the alleged victim was cutting his grass Wednesday.

Borough police arrested Gerald Clinton, 58, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he was evaluated for an existing condition at Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township, court records show.

Clinton and the other man, Michael Zelle, spent the afternoon drinking heavily at Clinton’s 53 Clark St. residence in the borough’s Clarksville neighborhood, police stated in the affidavit.

Zelle left after Clinton began yelling at him for incorrectly cutting his grass, only to return and pick up the argument in the front yard, police said in charging documents.

Police said Zelle pushed Clinton, who then stabbed Zelle in the right chest area about 9:30 p.m. with a martial arts-style folding knife. Zelle was treated for his wound at Uniontown Hospital, police said.

Clinton also is charged with disorderly conduct. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
