Washington County Commissioners
Date: Aug. 15
Action: As expected, the commissioners approved a new policy to prohibit elections office employees from running for elected office. It is designed to prevent a conflict of interest or appearance of conflict of interest, but includes a grandfather clause.
The asphalt paving contract with Morgan Excavating at the fairgrounds entrance and new beef barn will cost an additional $48,252, bringing the total to $296,327 to be paid with proceeds from the property’s natural gas lease.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding that will allow county probation officers and sheriff’s deputies to use the firing range on the grounds of the Washington County Fireman’s Association Fire Academy at no cost to the county.
Canonsburg and East Washington boroughs, part of the Canon-McMillan and Washington school districts, respectively, entered into intergovernmental cooperation agreements to join the Washington County Land Bank.
Offices of magisterial district judges will have new panic buttons under an agreement with Vector Security. The 36-month agreement, covering all 11 offices, will cost $439 per month.

Announcements: County offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day.
Next meeting: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. A meeting of the retirement board has been rescheduled to follow the commissioners’ meeting.
