The Monessen City School District Board of Directors voted Tuesday not to raise the rate of any potential new taxes for the 2020-21 fiscal year above the index established for the district by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Superintendent Leanne Spazak said that while Monessen School District’s index is set at a maximum of 3.8%, that does not necessarily mean that the district will raise taxes.

“I cannot predict at this time whether taxes will be raised or not,” said Spazak during the board’s monthly meeting.

Spazak added that the district’s preliminary budget should be ready for presentation in January.

Last June, the board passed a $16,139,672 budget that included a 2.66 mills tax increase.
