A former Washington man was sentenced to 6 to 12 years in state prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from allegations he molested two young girls.

Jon E. Stein, 54, who lived in Washington at the time of the crimes but moved to Nevada before the first of two cases was filed in 2012,  pleaded guilty to rape and aggravated indecent assault of a child on Thursday before Washington County Judge Valarie Costanzo.

Court papers show Costanzo ordered that Stein be transported to State Correctional Institution-Greene in Franklin Township. Following the prison sentence, he’ll serve a 20-year term of probation. As part of Stein’s plea deal, county prosecutors agreed to drop other charges they’d filed against him.

City police filed the first set of charges in 2012 based on a report from one girl that Stein had been sexually assaulting her for years, but he wasn’t arrested until November 2017, when authorities apprehended him in Las Vegas. A filing by Stein’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Adam Yarussi, says Stein had moved to Nevada before any of the charges were filed.

He was transported back to Washington County. In mid-December 2017, a city detective interviewed a second victim who described an incident when Stein had sexually assaulted her at a location in the city years earlier.

Stein received credit for time served since his arrest. The terms of his sentence also include a sex offender program and bar him from contacting either victim.
