Blair Zimmerman has announced he will seek re-election to the Greene County Board of Commissioners in the Democratic primary during the May 21 election.

Zimmerman has served on the board since 2012 and as chairman since 2016.

He was the mayor of Waynesburg Borough for nine years and retired from Cumberland Mine after more than 40 years of service. He pointed to his blue-collar work ethic as a quality that prepared him well to devote himself to tackling the real concerns our communities are facing.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Greene County as Commissioner,” he said. “I hope that my hard work the past six years has earned me the public’s trust and support for another term.”

A strong advocate for fiscal responsibility, economic development and essential infrastructure, Zimmerman cited his tenure as chairman of the Community and Economic Development Committee of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania as an important tool in exploring statewide strategies that can help move Greene County forward. In addition, he serves on the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission and has been involved with the Rural Transportation Alliance of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

Zimmerman said there are many important issues which will require additional time, effort and commitment, and he wants to continue to focus on working collaboratively, utilizing the recently adopted comprehensive plan as a guide for enhancing the area’s economic future and assisting the county’s townships and boroughs to improve quality of life.

“I have always strived to be honest and forthright and to strongly advocate for the best interests of all of our residents,” he said. “My experience as an elected municipal official combined with my dedication as a full-time commissioner has positioned me well to continue to provide the leadership necessary to help shape the positive direction of our communities and find sustainable solutions to our county’s challenges.”

A lifelong resident of Greene County, Zimmerman is the father of three and has three grandchildren. He is a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Lions Club of Waynesburg, past member of Greene County United Way and Greene County Habitat for Humanity and is a retired member of the Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company.
