ROSTRAVER – A Bentleyville man has been charged by the state attorney general’s office with attempts to steal a physician’s identity in order to obtain drugs from pharmacies.

A state narcotics officer last week filed two counts each of attempted identity theft, acquisition of drugs by misrepresentation and drug possession against Adrian T. Tyler III, 23, of 106 McCormick Ave., court records show.

The investigation began Sept. 27 after a pharmacist at a Rite Aid in Rostraver questioned prescriptions that were supposedly phoned in by a Dr. Beck for promethazine and albutoral, according to the affidavit supporting criminal charges in the case.

It also was determined that the prescriptions were ordered under that physician’s U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration number, the record alleges.

The pharmacy at Route 201 and Broad Avenue contacted Beck’s office, which denied ordering the prescriptions.

Another attempt was made Oct. 5 using Beck’s DEA number to get the same drugs using fake woman’s name at the same pharmacy. The pharmacy technician refused to give the suspect the drugs because he didn’t have his driver’s license with him. The technicianprovided investigators with the license number of the Jeep the man was driving.

Investigators learned that another attempt had been made Oct. 3 to obtain the same drugs from a Rite Aid in Bentleyville. The technician at that store at 175 Wilson Road gave a description of the suspect that reportedly matched Tyler’s driver’s license photo, the record shows.

Senior District Judge Herbert G. Mitchell Jr. issued the charges Friday in a summons.
