Police investigate incident at Burgettstown Middle/High School
Smith Township police are investigating an incident at Burgettstown Middle/High School where a man reportedly videotaped students as they arrived for classes Wednesday.
According to an email sent to parents by school district administration, the male left before school district personnel or police approached him.
Principal Melissa Mankey wrote in the email that police are searching for a white male between 25 and 30 years old who was driving a newer, black Dodge sports-utility vehicle.
The school district does not know why the man was on school property.
Mankey said Smith Township police will increase their presence on the school campus. The additional police patrols, both on-foot and in vehicles, will bolster security provided by Burgettstown Area School District police.
Mankey asked students and parents to report any suspicious activity to school district police Chief Vern Barkley or to school administration as soon as possible.
