Power outage closes Cal U. campus
California University of Pennsylvania is closed Thursday, due to a power outage on campus.
Christine Kindl, vice president for communications and marketing at Cal U, said an equipment failure caused the outage.
“We have no power in about two-thirds of our buildings,” she said.
There are emergency generators in key buildings, Kindl said, including the Convocation Center, where a warming center has been set up.
Kindl said Cal U’s 1,100 students in residence halls will have dining and health services available today. She said the temperatures in the halls were still comfortable as of early Thursday.
“If your students are on campus, we’re taking good care of them,” Kindl said. “We will keep them warm, we will feed them. We are just canceling classes because our academic buildings don’t have power.”
A notice on Cal U’s website indicated only essential personnel should report.
Vulcan Flyer shuttles will remain available.
