Due to a winter storm, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roadways in Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Motorists are asked to avoid unnecessary travel this morning, but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on Interstates 79 and 70, according to a release from PennDOT.

Although crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not entirely free of ice and snow. Roadways will be addressed throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

Also, driver’s license centers in Washington, Greene, Allegheny, Fayette and Westmoreland counties will be operating on a three-hour delay. Those with tests scheduled for today at these locations will be contacted by staff to reschedule.

The department also asks drivers to leave space when near plow trucks. Motorists should not attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading materials.
