Three area farms added to preservation program
The state Agricultural Land Preservation Board voted last week to preserve 35 farms covering 3,333 acres in 19 counties, including Washington and Greene.
Since the program began in 1988, governments have purchsed permanent easements on 5,462 farms totaling 562,920 acres. This year the board will spend $38 million to purchase development rights from farm owners.
The farms added to the preservation program include the William Milesky farm, a 116-acre crop and livestock operation in Greene County, and the 105-acre Marko Brigich farm and 446-acre Robert W. Miller farm, both in Washington County. Both farms are crop and livestock operations.
