Houston man jailed on attempted homicide charge
A Houston man charged with attempted homicide was being held in Washington County jail following his preliminary hearing Monday afternoon.
Steve Corey Law IV, 27, of 332 Sprowls Ave., was charged by Washington police after he allegedly fired a gun multiple times into an occupied car at the corner of Duncan Avenue and Clark Avenue in the city in November.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim, Brittany Copechal, was sitting in her vehicle with a passenger, Vernon Patrick, about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 24, when Law approached her in another vehicle.
Police said Law got out of his vehicle and fired shots into Copechal’s Cadillac, striking it twice. Police said the victims were not injured and that only the vehicle was struck. Police found two bullet holes and a bullet fragment in the vehicle.
Copechal told police she had known Law about five years before this incident.
Law was charged Dec. 19 with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and illegal possession of a firearm. He was arraigned Feb. 14 by District Judge Mark Wilson and jailed on $50,000 bond.
