Washington man robbed at gunpoint on New Year’s Day

A 58-year-old Washington man reported to police that his new year began with a gun to his back during an armed robbery Tuesday morning on Meadow Avenue.

The man told Washington police that he was walking in the 200 block of Meadow Avenue, near the PNC Bank ATM machine, about 7:15 a.m., when a man approached him from behind.

According to the police report, the suspect asked the victim for money and the victim felt something pushed in his back. He turned around and saw the man holding a beer in one hand and a black revolver in the other, the report states. The victim told police the man appeared to be intoxicated.

The man told police that he gave $100 to the suspect, who then fled on foot toward the West End neighborhood.

The suspect was described in the police report as a black man in his 50s, about 6 feet tall and wieghing 225 pounds, wearing dark clothing, a cap and glasses, with beard stubble. Police are investigating.
