Canonsburg council addresses parking on the borough’s narrow roads during a snowstorm
Ahead of a possible weekend snowstorm, Canonsburg Borough officials are encouraging residents who live on narrow streets to park their vehicles with one set of wheels on the curb if several inches of snow falls.
Getting one set of wheels off the street makes it easier for plow trucks to clear the snow from the streets in the event of a heavy snowfall.
“It gives us an additional 10 to 12 inches of room,” said public works director Tom Lawrence.
A major snowstorm could hit to Southwestern Pennsylvania Saturday, although it is too early to predict snowfall amounts.
Council President R.T. Bell said the potential for significant snowfall provided an opportunity for the borough to ask residents to ensure the road crew can maneuver plow trucks through streets.
Bell also reminded residents it is their responsibility to clear their sidewalks, but said the township likely will not enforce its policy requiring people to have sidewalks cleared within 12 hours after a snowstorm if there is an accumulation of several inches.
“Due diligence, do as much as you can,” said Bell. “There are a lot of elderly residents who don’t have anyone to clean their driveway. We understand that.”
