Martin Luther King celebration to be held Sunday
The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration sponsored by the NAACP Washington Branch will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Nazareth Baptist Church, Lincoln Street, Washington. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth L. Huston, pastor of First Church of God in Christ Ministries and president of the NAACP Allegheny East Branch.
Huston is the also the founder and president of Huston Trust Co, which has several divisions, including commercial cleaning, workforce development, entrepreneurial development and community development.
He serves as the executive director of Future Champs Inc,. a workforce development nonprofit for youth and adults. He was co-chair of the Inter-Agency Council for Pittsburgh Public Schools, sat on the advisory board for the Allegheny County Department of Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, and served as the first community liaison for the Black Political Empowerment Project of the Coalition Against Violence in Pittsburgh, where he was instrumental in securing a grant focusing on violence prevention and intervention in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University and Pittsburgh Public Schools.
