Marianna resident takes over as station commander at Waynesburg barracks

Sgt. Jay Hundertmark
WAYNESBURG – A Marianna resident has taken over command of the state police station in Greene County.
Sgt. Jay Hundertmark, 49, is now supervising the day-to-day operations and oversees the work of 31 people: 25 officers and six civilians.
“One of my main duties is to make sure we’re serving the community and county in the best manner possible,” Hundertmark said. “I intend to stay involved with the community by going to township meetings and making myself familiar with the schools and their resource officers.”
While serving the residents of Greene County, Hundertmark said he intends to get involved with issues surrounding the opioid crisis and will work with the various community organizations who are addressing the epidemic.
“I’m a big believer in education and plan to keep the community informed about the positive aspects of law enforcement as well as first responders,” he said.
Hundertmark took over at the station near Waynesburg on Dec. 1, bringing with him plenty of experience from other work within the state police – and a familiarity with the area. He formerly served in stations in Washington and Uniontown, both part of Troop B, along with the Waynesburg station.
He served previously in Waynesburg from July 2011 to March 2013, and again from October 2016 to October 2017. He was awarded the rank of sergeant in June while serving as the crime unit supervisor in Washington. Directly before his appointment as the supervisor in Waynesburg, Hundertmark oversaw the criminal investigation unit at the Uniontown station.
Hundertmark joined the state police in 2003, when he was admitted as a cadet. Before that, he worked as a post-secondary teacher from 1991 to 2003 at Laurel Business Institute in Uniontown and at the Private Industry Council in the North Union Township and Greensburg offices.
