ANSYS acquires another firm, this one from U.K.
One month after the holiday shopping season, ANSYS Inc. apparently is in a buying mood.
The global simulation software company announced Tuesday it has a definitive agreement to acquire Granta Design, a United Kingdom-based provider of materials information technology. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019, according to a news release from ANSYS.
On Monday, the Southpointe-based firm announced it had reached a similar agreement with Helic, a Santa Clara, Calif., company that provides electromagnetic crosstalk solutions systems for systems on chips.
Granta Design, headquartered in Cambridge, U.K., provides material information technology that helps customers manage information about engineering materials, including plastics and metals. The firm has more than 180 employees.
Its customers include Airbus, General Motors, Lockheed Martin NASA, Saudi Armco and Rolls-Royce.
Shane Emswiler, ANSYS vice president and general manager, said in a prepared statement: “Granta Design has pioneered the field of materials information technology. With materials engineering becoming an increasingly important aspect of product development, our customers require high-quality and comprehensive materials information for accurate simulation results.
“Integrating Granta’s solutions into the ANSYS portfolio will provide a seamless user experience and enable our customers to innovate like never before.”
ANSYS, according to its website, “has more than 60 strategic sales locations throughout the world,” plus “a network of channel partners in more than 40 countries.”
