Republican incumbent Greene County Commissioner Archie Trader announced that he is running for a fourth term and will seek the party’s nomination in the May primary.

Trader, who has served as a county commissioner for the past 11 years since he was first elected in November 2007, said he believes that the county has experienced many improvements during his tenure, and he is excited that there are many more improvements to come.

“There is still a lot of work to do to make Greene County even more viable, and I want to be actively involved in not only continuing to work on the many major projects that this Board of Commissioners have completed, made progress on or contributed to, but also begin working on many other new projects as well,” Trader said.

“This is an exciting time in Greene County, and I am ready to continue working as a full-time commissioner and work with all the people of Greene County to reach our common goals.”

Trader said he wants to continue talking with restaurant owners to hopefully bring more businesses to the Greene County Airport and other areas, and he is adamant about getting more sewage and water lines installed throughout the county. Trader said other projects and initiatives that he intends to continuing being involved with include the Greene County Overdose Task Force, which is focusing on addressing the ongoing opioid epidemic; working with the county’s Conservation District in their mission to commit to protection, stewardship, and conservation of the county’s natural resources; and working with the county’s Veterans Affairs Office to help area veterans.

Throughout his tenure, Trader said he is proud of the many accomplishments of the Board of Commissioners, including efforts in helping to reactivate the Redevelopment Authority, which has helped rehabilitate dilapidated properties across the county and return them to the county’s tax rolls. He said he is also pleased with the county’s joint scholarship with West Penn Power for Waynesburg University freshmen, an initiative that has assisted dozens of Greene County students over the years.

“Assisting and serving the people of Greene County are paramount to how I view my role as County Commissioner,” he said. “I enjoy the job of trying to help people. That is what being a County Commissioner is all about.”

In the community, Trader has been very active in numerous nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of area residents. He has been involved with Greene County United Way since its inception and served as chapter president twice. He is also a past president of the Rotary Club of Waynesburg. A longtime farmer, Trader is involved with Penn State Cooperative Extension, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Greene County Conservation District.

He attends St. Ann Catholic Church in Waynesburg and is a fourth-degree faithful navigator of St. Ann’s Knights of Columbus. He is past KOC Grand Knight and past district deputy.

Trader successfully completed business and management courses at Penn State University and the University of Arkansas. He owned Trader’s Plumbing and Heating Inc. in Jefferson.

Trader and his wife of 57 years, Jeanette, reside in Ruff Creek and have three children and two grandchildren.
