Debris remains after Louis Usher’s truck exploded in his driveway Thursday. He later died in a Pittsburgh hospital.

A 55-year-old man died following a truck explosion in the Fayette County community of Fayette City Wednesday night.

State police identified the man as Louis Usher. His truck exploded in his driveway about 7:50 p.m. along Fayette City Road (Route 201).

State police are investigating the cause of the explosion. The truck had a conversion kit which would allow the vehicle to run on either natural gas or standard gasoline, according to Trooper Robert Broadwater, noting the investigation has not officially ruled out other causes of the explosion.

“We don’t know what caused it, or what sparked it, or what the origin of the explosion was,” he said Thursday morning.

Whether Usher was in his truck or just outside the truck was not immediately determined.

“It’s unfortunate. It’s just a freak accident,” he said.

No one else was injured in the explosion.

Fayette EMS, Rostraver West Newton EMS, Fayette City and Grindstone fire departments and STAT MedEvac responded to the scene, along with state police.
