Pulitzer Prize-winning author to kick off Vietnam War speaker series
The Smithsonian-affiliated Senator John Heinz History Center will kick off its Vietnam War Speaker Series on June 20 at 7 p.m. with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Fredrik Logevall.
Presented in conjunction with the History Center’s “The Vietnam War: 1945-1975” exhibit, the speaker series will include four talks by five nationally renowned speakers on the war’s origins, its impact on American society and its lasting effects on the people of Vietnam.
Logevall, a professor at Harvard University, is a specialist on U.S. foreign relations and 20th century international history. Logevall is the author or editor of nine books, including “Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam,” which won a Pulitzer Prize in 2013, as well as the Francis Parkman Prize, the American Library in Paris Book Award, and the Arthur Ross Book Award from the Council on Foreign Relations.
Logevall will discuss the collapse of French colonialism and the American war that followed in Vietnam. Following the presentation, he will sign copies of “Embers of War,” which will be available for purchase.
Additional lectures are scheduled in July, August and September.
