Washington police are investigating a pair of robbery attempts that occurred at roughly the same time Friday involving a man wielding a knife.

According to police reports, a man with a knife attempted to rob the Family Dollar at 130 Highland Ave. and then the Smoke Shop at 52 Highland Ave.

Police went to the Family Dollar about 6:30 p.m. Friday. The cashier described the robber as a white man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with short hair. According to the police report, he was wearing a burgundy shirt, blue or gray pants, black tennis shoes and a black bandanna around his neck.

The cashier told police that the man had a knife in his hand and said, “I want everything,” after placing some items near the register.

The man left without taking anything, according to police, and surveillance cameras captured the incident.

While police were at the Family Dollar, people came into the store to say the Smoke Shop had just been robbed.

The employee at the Smoke Shop gave police the same description of the clothing the man was wearing. When he demanded the money, the employee said no and the would-be robber left.

According to police, the man left on a black bike and headed towards College and Walnut Streets.
