Monessen man and woman charged with starving dogs for over a week
An arrest warrant has been issued for a Monessen man and woman who allegedly left two dogs in a house to starve.
On Tuesday, Monessen police filed charges against Daniel Webster Brewer III, 34, and Karen Marie Brewer, 33, both of 225 Linden Ave.
The charges were filed after Daniel Brewer’s mother came to the police station Monday to have an officer assist her in checking on Daniel Brewer’s dogs.
Upon arrival at the home, police said the dogs, a white pit bull and a brown pit bull, appeared to be in poor health. Police said the dogs had not had food or water for days, and possibly for weeks.
Police said both dogs’ ribs were visible, and the animals were locked in a bedroom that was strewn with their feces.
Neighbors told police nobody had come to the house in weeks and if there were people there, no dogs were ever outside.
Police contacted the Westmoreland County Humane Society, which will find a foster family for the dogs after the dogs receive medical attention.
A preliminary arraignment has been scheduled for Wednesday, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled at 10 a.m. June 28.
Daniel and Karen Brewer were both charged with two counts each of aggravated cruelty to animals resulting in serious bodily injury or death, cruelty to animals and neglect of animals.
