CLARKSVILLE – A South Strabane Township man has been accused of trying to lure a girl into his van Thursday in East Bethlehem Township.

Centerville police charged Jan Ondra, 66, in the case with a felony count of luring a child into a motor vehicle involving a 10-year-old girl in the township’s Clarksville neighborhood, court records show.

Police received a dispatch about 2:10 p.m. to Clark Street to investigate a report of an older man with long hair driving a blue van with white doors who had attempted to lure a girl into his vehicle, an officer noted in the affidavit.

The van was stopped a short time later by police at Community Street and Route 88.

Ondra was released at that time after telling police he approached the girl to see if her parents were home because he was looking at tax sale properties and wanted information about sewerage, police said in charging documents.

He said he stayed in the area for about 40 seconds after the girl ran into her house.

The girl later told police that the van stopped and backed up to where she was standing, and the driver said, “Get in the van. I’m taking you to your daddy,” the affidavit states.

Ondra then drove to the Centerville police station about two hours later and told an officer he thought it was a good idea to go there because he was being followed by several vehicles.

He is free on $25,000 bond after being arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson.
