Donora man denied bail in stabbing

1 min read

A district judge denied bail to a Donora man who was arrested on Thursday, two days after police said he stabbed another man several times in the Mon Valley borough.

Court papers show District Judge Mark Wilson ordered Westley D. Sloan Jr., 29, held in Washington County jail because of the “severity of the injuries” Sloan allegedly caused to Franswal Rice during a fight between the men about 7 p.m. on the 600 block of Thompson Avenue.

Police said Rice’s injuries were serious. Sloan was charged by Donora police with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Court records show that Sloan was also being held on a bench warrant. He had been free on $100,000 bail while facing burglary and other charges in another case brought by borough police in January. On Friday, Common Pleas Judge Gary Gilman changed bail in that case to $100,000 secured.
