Two men hospitalized after being struck by vehicle
A Washington man was jailed over the weekend, accused of driving his car into a group of pedestrians and injuring two men Saturday night.
Walter Holt III, 29, of 119 Murray Ave., faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, accidents involving death or personal injury, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
According to a police report, city police responded to reports that a vehicle crashed into the Elks Lodge at 138 Maiden St. just before midnight Saturday.
Witnesses told police that a man, who was later identified by police as Holt, drove a white Honda Ridgeline into the side of another vehicle in the parking lot and into the group of pedestrians.
Injured were Canton Township resident James Miller and Greensburg resident Noah Malls. Both were transported to Washington Hospital by ambulance.
According to the police report, Holt drove his vehicle into the Elks Lodge multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Police found Holt in the 400 block of East Wheeling Street with his girlfriend, who owns the vehicle Holt was driving.
According to police, the Honda was found with heavy front end damage.
Police reported that there was a “strong odor” of alcohol on Holt’s breath and that he had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
Holt allegedly refused a blood draw, and police did not perform a field sobriety test “due to the severity of the incident,” according to the report.
He was incarcerated in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. July 3 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
