MONESSEN – A Monessen woman is facing charges she abandoned her 3-month-old son on the front porch of a house where no one was home early Thursday.

Monessen police later in the day filed charges against the mother, Makayla Calvert, of endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment, court records show.

The father told police he was out with friends about 1 a.m., and they were heading toward Chestnut Street when he saw his wife, Makayla. He said his wife yelled to him, “Bye … have fun.”He also told police he had no idea what she was talking about at the time.

About 20 minutes later, he noticed a car seat covered with a blanket on a porch on Chestnut. He said he removed the blanket and saw his son in the car seat.

He also told police his wife had no idea when someone would return to the residence.

Senior District Judge Herbert G. Mitchell Jr. signed a warrant Thursday for the arrest of Makayla Calvert of 1435 Walnut Ave.
