Greene County agencies collaborate on warrant sweep
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office conducted a “large-scale” sweep early Friday across the county for people with outstanding warrants.
Deputies were assisted by county detectives and prison officers, county probation officers and police officers from Cumberland Township, Waynesburg, and Greene County Regional. State constables, parole officers, game commission officers, California Borough police officers and area K9 officers assisted with the sweep.
Together they arrested 26 people with a total of 58 warrants, according to a news release from Interim Sheriff Marcus Simms. He said 10 of those people were in custody before 7:30 a.m. and that some of the arrestees may be receiving additional charges.
“Our office has worked diligently to apprehend wanted persons and has recently turned to the use of social media to assist us,” Simms said in the release. “This warrant sweep is another useful tool that we plan to continue to utilize.”
Simms thanked all the agencies involved in the sweep. Since February, his office has apprehended 40 “wanted individuals,” he said.
