East Washington man charged in heroin overdose death
An East Washington man has been charged with supplying fentanyl-laced heroin to a man who suffered a fatal overdose after using the drug last month.
District Judge Ethan Ward ordered the alleged drug dealer, Nicholas George Retos, 34, to Washington County jail without bond Monday in the case, court records show.
The Washington County Drug Task Force charged Retos with drug delivery that resulted in death after reviewing calls and messages on the cellphone that belonged to the victim, Justin P. Platt, according to the criminal complaint.
Retos used the number investigators found on Platt’s phone on a form listing his contact information at the county jail in a previous case, the affidavit indicates.
Platt’s girlfriend, Amara Czech, found him dead in their apartment after they had purchased six stamp bags from Retos for $60 on the morning of Feb.2, court records alleged.
She told investigators she ingested one and one-half stamp bags that day, and woke up 20 minutes later on the dining room floor. She found Platt dead on his bed, the affidavit indicates.
The bags were red and marked with a blue dollar sign, and they were identical to those found in Platt’s residence at 211 E. Maiden St., Washington, investigators said.
“Czech also relayed that Retos had spoken to her since Platt’s death and expressed regret over selling Czech and Platt the bags that killed Platt,” a detective noted in the affidavit.
Czech later made several recorded phone calls to Retos regarding Platt’s death, the record alleges.
Investigators also arranged for a controlled heroin purchase from Retos to make a case that he is a heroin dealer “with reckless disregard to the community,” the record states.
Retos, of 409 N. Wade Ave., also is charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Czech has not been charged in the case, online court records indicate.
