West Virginia man jailed following alleged stalking, attempted burglary and police chase
A West Virginia man accused of stalking a woman, trying to break into a residence where she was and threatening to kill her was jailed after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in West Finley Township and crashing his car in West Virginia.
Jabarius Dion Carter, 25, of Moundsville, W.Va., allegedly sent his ex-girlfriend, Kristin Siburt, text messages Sunday of a gun and told her he was going to kill her “and whoever else she was with,” according to a criminal complaint.
Siburt told state police the messages had been “non-stop” through Tuesday morning, when Carter allegedly tracked her cellphone and found her at a residence in the 300 block of Gunn Ridge Road. She called police about 9:16 a.m. and told them Carter was attempting to get inside the house, while screaming and yelling profanities at her and saying he was going to kill her.
According to the complaint, Siburt and a friend were lying on the kitchen floor of the residence in an attempt to hide from Carter, who was circling the house and trying all the doors. Police said Siburt told them she was “in fear for her life.”
While outside the house, Carter allegedly sent Siburt a video message on social media that showed Carter screaming while trying to break into the house.
Police said Carter fled before their arrival, but they found his car at the intersection of Milliken Boulevard and Old Brick Road. When they initiated a traffic stop, Carter allegedly sped away from them and traveled onto Interstate 70.
Carter allegedly began passing vehicles while driving on the berm and the opposite side of construction cones. Police said he drove 90 mph through an active work zone before exiting the interstate and crashing his car near Dallas Pike.
Carter was taken into custody and charged with criminal attempted burglary, terroristic threats, stalking, simple assault, fleeing a police officer, harassment and four summary traffic violations. He was being held in the Ohio County Jail in West Virginia on a $10,000 cash bond.
